There's always something to experience in Utrecht. Whether you live there or are just visiting, the city always surprises. You can wander around for days and still discover new things: from a special store in a side street of the Oudegracht to a little coffee bar in an old commercial building.
Altogether, the historical locations in the old city centre form the vibrant part of Utrecht. Many of the majestic city castles have been rebuilt into hotels and restaurants and the old storage areas along the wharf are now the place to be for cosy cafés, trendy retail concepts and restaurants offering the cuisine of the world.
Are you staying for dinner? Do as the locals do and start off with some fingerfood (the Utrecht Vockingworst, for example) and a locally brewed beer from De Leckere. Settle down in a cosy Utrecht bar and then spend the evening in one of the more than 200 restaurants.
A bike is a fun and relaxed way of getting to know Utrecht. So do just as the locals do: get to know the car-free centre and surrounding neighbourhoods by bike. Utrecht is nicely compact and, in no time, you'll find the most beautiful urban parks or find yourself in the middle of the woods.
The charming old city centre of Utrecht is a true shopper's paradise. You'll find popular department stores, small boutiques, trendy retail concepts and bustling markets.
There's plenty to discover in the city centre of Utrecht. Turn into a random side street and you'll forget for a moment that you're in the middle of the city. You'll find yourself suddenly in a hidden courtyard, a beautiful garden or a narrow alleyway with a special story. These are Utrecht's forgotten places where time seems to have stood still.
